ARBO Reads: A Tiny Beginning

Why we are Drawing of Micro Libraries in our Neighborhoods

Introducing the idea and philosophy behind micro library movement, called ARBO reads by Architect Rinka Bose D’Monte. An extension of Atelier ARBO’s design ethos into the world of books, stories and shared learning.

As an architect I have been designing for a while and books are something which provides us the right amount of inspiration and stimuli from time to time for our projects. With over 15 years of work experience and keen interest into educational spaces and library design, I have been drawn to this idea of micro-Libraries in neighborhood for a while now. The idea started with grand plans to have a large space which can attract lot many people, but then I felt the people who need access or an introduction to a neighborhood library are the children from small and diverse neighborhoods. With this thought, I felt a need to start in this direction, even though it may be a small beginning, but it can be a big step towards rejuvenating the interest into reading books for our younger generation now and for the years to come.

With this hope and desire as a mother of a growing boy of 8 Years old in Mumbai, I am beginning this journey quietly with few shelfs, some new and some old books along with lot of hope and love. And just like that we will be sharing our books on design, nature, children’s books, poetry, history and many intersections between them. Over time, these books have given me lot of strength and also little pauses in a day - moments to reflect, to wander and to think differently.

I am very happy to share the warmth of these books which have provided me a sense of belonging & connection beyond our Architecture Studio. I hope you can be part of this humble experiment that intends to invite people to read, exchange and re-connect with the quiet pleasure of books.
